Norway are expected to welcome Julian Ryerson back into the starting XI for tonight’s World Cup 2026 round-of-16 showdown with Brazil.
The Borussia Dortmund full-back has been sidelined since picking up an injury in Norway’s second group-stage match against Senegal, but he has returned to full training in recent days and is now set to reclaim his place on the right side of defence.

Ryerson back after injury concern
Ryerson’s return is a significant boost for Stale Solbakken ahead of Norway’s biggest World Cup match in a generation.
The Lyngdal-born defender has trained with the rest of the squad over the last two days, and Solbakken confirmed at Saturday’s press conference that he was under consideration for the Brazil match.
“He has trained like the others for the last two days, but he does not have the same volume as the rest,” Solbakken said.
“He has been pain-free for two days, but there is a bit of uncertainty in that position, because others have also had some issues there,” he added, referring to Marcus Holmgren Pedersen.

Norway set to keep faith with proven side
Aside from Ryerson’s expected return, Norway are set to stick with the team that started the dramatic knockout victory over Ivory Coast.
That means Solbakken is unlikely to make sweeping changes as Norway attempt to extend their historic unbeaten record against Brazil.
Norway have already produced one of the stories of the tournament by reaching the last 16, and the return of Ryerson gives them another important defensive weapon against a Brazil attack led by Vinicius Jr.
Haaland leads Norway’s attack
Norway’s attacking threat will once again be built around Erling Haaland, who is among the leading contenders for the World Cup Golden Boot.
The Manchester City striker is expected to start through the middle, with Alexander Sørloth and Antonio Nusa providing support from wide areas.
Captain Martin Ødegaard should continue in midfield, where Sander Berge and Patrick Berg are set to complete a familiar trio behind the front three.
