Coolbet’s odds aren’t naked – but they’re still sexy

Sydney Sweeney has certainly found a way to get people talking about betting. A campaign for US sports prediction market company Novig featuring the Hollywood actress posing naked alongside various pieces of sporting equipment has attracted enormous attention – and not all of it has been positive.

The campaign has prompted a wider reaction from female athletes, with hundreds sharing videos under the message “This is women in sports.” Several Norwegian sporting profiles have also joined the debate.

Cross-country skier Ingrid Bergene Aabrekk told VG that she felt the campaign represented “a step backwards” in how women are portrayed in a sporting context. Athlete Laura van der Veen similarly argued that the focus should be on female athletes and their performances rather than sexualisation.

Olympic weightlifting champion Solfrid Koanda raised the issue of body pressure and said that women were once again being made interesting through appearance and sexualisation. Former ski jumper Maren Lundby argued that sport should be about what athletes achieve rather than how they look.

Former rower Birgit Skarstein offered another interesting observation: perhaps the controversy itself is exactly what makes this type of advertising work. The campaign has generated enormous exposure, and every subsequent argument about it potentially gives it even more.

We’ll leave that debate to others. At OddsFactory, there is another type of attractiveness we’re considerably better qualified to judge.

Odds.

Coolbet keeps its clothes on

Fortunately, assessing an attractive set of odds requires considerably fewer strategically positioned sporting props. Earlier this year, OddsFactory took part as judges for Bookmakertesten.com, where bookmakers and their offerings were put to the test. That gave us the opportunity to take a close look at Coolbet alongside competing operators. And one thing stood out.

Coolbet’s odds are seriously attractive.

Not because a celebrity tells us they are. Not because of a provocative advertising campaign. And certainly not because somebody has removed their clothes. It’s simply in the numbers.

Across the markets we’ve examined, Coolbet has repeatedly demonstrated that it can compete at the very sharp end of the market when it comes to price. That matters because, for somebody actually placing sports bets, a slightly better price isn’t just something that looks nice on the screen.

Over hundreds of bets, it can make a meaningful difference. Our involvement with Bookmakertesten also gave us an opportunity to look beyond individual eye-catching prices. A bookmaker can always produce a particularly attractive price on one match or one market. The more interesting question is whether those competitive odds are there consistently.

That is where Coolbet impressed. You can read the full Coolbet assessment at Bookmakertesten.com.

Sexy is in the eye of the bettor

The Sydney Sweeney campaign has triggered a much bigger discussion about women, sport, advertising and where the line should be drawn.

Those are legitimate questions, and the reactions from Aabrekk, van der Veen, Koanda, Lundby, Skarstein and many other female athletes demonstrate that the campaign has touched a nerve.

We’re not going to decide that debate for them. But if we’re talking about what constitutes an attractive sportsbook, OddsFactory is much more comfortable entering the discussion.

Give us competitive markets. Give us consistently strong prices. Give bettors something tangible for their money. That’s our kind of sexy.

Sydney Sweeney may have demonstrated that taking your clothes off is one way of getting attention in the betting industry. Coolbet’s odds manage it without taking anything off at all.

No nudity. No strategically positioned basketballs. Just seriously sexy odds.
