Why they could finish much higher
Watford may be the most difficult team in the Championship to predict ahead of the new season. They have signed Omar Traoré, Iker Bravo and Luca Kjerrumgaard from Udinese, while nine players have left the club. There is still plenty of quality in the squad on paper, but the real question is whether Watford can make everything work consistently over the course of a full campaign.
The biggest uncertainty surrounds Nestory Irankunda. Sporting CP have already shown interest, but Watford have so far rejected offers. If he stays, they will retain one of the Championship’s most exciting attacking players and someone capable of deciding matches on his own.
Iker Bravo is another extremely interesting addition. He possesses excellent technique, intelligent movement and the potential to become one of the league’s breakout performers if he is given enough trust and regular playing time.

Watford still possess more individual quality than many of the teams around them. Several players are capable of deciding matches through moments of brilliance, while the new attacking additions give them greater variety and depth in the final third.
The club’s international recruitment network also remains a major advantage. Watford are often able to attract exciting young players who would be beyond the reach of many other Championship clubs.
Weaknesses
The biggest problem is the same one that has affected Watford for several years: a lack of continuity. Frequent managerial changes, major turnover within the squad and constant instability have made it difficult to build a settled team over time.
The new signings may prove to be excellent additions, but they need to fit into a coherent structure rather than simply becoming another collection of exciting individual names.
Should Irankunda be sold late in the transfer window without a suitable replacement already lined up, Watford’s attacking threat would be weakened considerably.

If he stays, Irankunda could be the difference between an uneventful mid-table season and a genuine play-off challenge. His pace, directness and individual quality make him one of the most dangerous attacking players in the division.
One to watch
Iker Bravo
Bravo is a player with enormous potential who could enjoy a major breakthrough in the Championship this season. If he adapts quickly and earns regular minutes, he has the technical ability and movement to become one of Watford’s most important attacking players.
What they still need
Watford would benefit from an experienced leader in central midfield, a dependable centre-back and, perhaps most importantly, stability around the club and coaching staff.
Verdict
At their best, Watford have a squad capable of challenging for the play-offs. However, recent history shows that instability often prevents the club from fulfilling its potential. The quality within the squad is better than a 15th-place finish, but I do not trust Watford enough to predict them any higher.
My prediction is 15th place.
