West Ham are building momentum
West Ham welcome Wrexham to the London Stadium on Friday night with Nuno Espírito Santo’s side beginning to find their rhythm in the Championship.
The Hammers have won three consecutive league matches, beating Wolves 4-2, Derby 3-0 and Bolton 3-2. Ten goals across those three games underline just how dangerous West Ham have become going forward
Jarrod Bowen has been one of their key players, contributing three goals and two assists from his opening six Championship starts.
There is still an obvious area for Wrexham to target.
West Ham have managed only one clean sheet in eight matches across all competitions this season.
They are scoring goals, but they are also giving opponents opportunities.
Wrexham have been difficult to put away
Wrexham have taken a different route through the opening weeks of the season.
Phil Parkinson’s side have drawn four of their first six Championship matches and have already shown they can compete away from home.
Their standout result was an impressive 3-0 victory at Millwall, while they have also collected away points against Cardiff and Swansea.
Seven goals from their opening six league matches suggests their attacking output can improve, but four draws demonstrate how difficult Wrexham have been to put away.
Team news
West Ham could make changes following a busy schedule, with Joel Veltman, Manor Solomon and Joel Piroe among the players pushing for starts.
Taty Castellanos is a doubt, while Tomas Soucek is unavailable with an ankle injury.
Wrexham have concerns of their own. Max Cleworth suffered an injury against Burnley, potentially opening the door for Zak Vyner or Joe Worrall in defence.
Oliver Rathbone, Nathan Broadhead, Danny Imray and Sam Smith are also among those who could come into contention.
Verdict
West Ham enter this game as clear favourites, and their recent attacking form makes that understandable.
Three consecutive Championship victories and ten goals during that run provide plenty of encouragement for the home side.
But Wrexham should not simply be written off.
They have demonstrated an ability to pick up points away from home, while West Ham’s defensive record suggests the visitors could get opportunities.
The key question is whether Wrexham can withstand West Ham’s attacking pressure for 90 minutes.
With home advantage and significantly stronger recent momentum, West Ham get the edge.

West Ham to win
