The Netherlands have one job left to complete before turning their attention to the knockout rounds. Victory over Tunisia would almost certainly secure first place in Group F and maintain the momentum generated by an outstanding display against Sweden.

For Tunisia, the equation is much simpler. Elimination has already been confirmed after successive heavy defeats, leaving Herve Renard’s side with one final opportunity to restore some pride before heading home.

Dutch confidence growing at the right time

There were moments of uncertainty in the Netherlands’ opening 2-2 draw with Japan, but any concerns disappeared in emphatic fashion against Sweden.

Ronald Koeman’s side overwhelmed one of the tournament’s most dangerous attacks, racing into an early lead before producing a clinical attacking display that ended in a 5-1 victory. Brian Brobbey’s physical presence gave Sweden constant problems, Cody Gakpo rediscovered his finishing touch with two goals, and Crysencio Summerville added further evidence of the depth available from the bench.

The result also reinforced something Koeman will value just as highly as the scoreline. After allowing Japan back into their opening match twice, the Dutch controlled the contest from start to finish against Sweden, dictating possession and rarely allowing their opponents any sustained momentum.

A win here should be enough to finish top of the group, an outcome that could prove valuable once the knockout draw takes shape.

Tunisia searching for positives

Few teams have endured a more difficult tournament. A 5-1 defeat to Sweden cost Sabri Lamouchi his job after only five matches in charge, and Herve Renard has so far been unable to halt the slide. His first match ended in a 4-0 defeat to Japan, leaving Tunisia without a point and already eliminated before the final round of fixtures.

Beyond the results themselves, the lack of attacking threat has been particularly worrying. Tunisia failed to register a shot on target against Japan and have struggled to create meaningful chances throughout the tournament, placing constant pressure on a defence that has spent long periods without the ball.

Renard is expected to make tactical adjustments rather than wholesale personnel changes, but restoring confidence may prove a greater challenge than altering the system.

Team news

Tunisia have no fresh injury concerns, giving Renard a full squad to choose from. A switch to a back four is under consideration after the five-man defence failed to stem the tide against Japan. Hannibal Mejbri should continue as the creative focal point behind the attack, while Ellyes Skhiri anchors the midfield.

The Netherlands could welcome Quinten Timber back after concussion protocols ruled him out against Sweden. Brobbey is expected to be assessed after picking up a knock, although Koeman has quality alternatives in Donyell Malen and Summerville if changes become necessary. Frenkie de Jong, Ryan Gravenberch and Tijjani Reijnders should once again provide the platform in midfield.

Verdict

The Netherlands have steadily improved with each outing, while Tunisia have struggled to compete at both ends of the pitch. Even if Koeman opts to rotate parts of his squad, the Dutch possess too much quality, creativity and confidence for an opponent already preparing for the journey home.

Expect the Oranje to control possession, create the better chances and finish the group stage with maximum authority.

Tip: Netherlands to win.
