Djurgårdens IF will look to continue their strong run of form when they travel to Örgryte in the Allsvenskan on Monday evening.

Back-to-back victories have lifted the Stockholm club into fifth place, just two points adrift of the European qualification places, while newly-promoted Örgryte remain second from bottom despite a morale-boosting win last time out.

With one side pushing towards the top four and the other battling to avoid relegation, both teams head into this fixture with plenty at stake.

Örgryte finally ended a frustrating run of results with a dramatic 4-3 victory over Hacken, claiming their first league win since April and providing a significant boost to confidence.

The Gothenburg club have found life difficult following promotion from the Superettan, collecting just nine points from their opening 12 matches. However, Andreas Holmberg’s side have shown they are capable of competing, particularly on home soil, where they have suffered only two league defeats despite recording just one victory.

A club steeped in Swedish football history with 12 league titles, Orgryte are now focused solely on preserving their top-flight status after returning via last season’s promotion play-offs.

Noah Christoffersson has been their main attacking threat this year and will once again lead the line, while the hosts are expected to be missing only long-term absentee Rasmus Alm.

Djurgårdens

Djurgårdens have rediscovered their rhythm since the summer restart and arrive in Gothenburg chasing a third consecutive league win.

A 4-2 victory over Hacken was followed by an impressive 3-0 success against Halmstad, with Jani Honkavaara’s side continuing to impress in the final third. Their tally of 26 league goals is among the highest in the division, underlining their attacking quality.

Having finished fifth last season, Djurgårdens are once again firmly in the hunt for European football. Victory on Monday could move them even closer to the top four as the table begins to tighten.

Kristian Stromland Lien has enjoyed an excellent campaign with 10 goals in 15 appearances and remains the visitors’ biggest attacking weapon. Mikael Margues is available again after serving a suspension, while Honkavaara is expected to have an otherwise fully fit squad.

Verdict

Örgryte’s victory over Hacken should ensure they approach this fixture with renewed belief, but Djurgårdens appear to be gathering momentum at exactly the right time.

The visitors possess greater attacking firepower, arrive in significantly stronger form and have genuine European ambitions this season. Örgryte should make them work for the points, particularly at home, but Djurgårdens look well equipped to edge another important victory.
