The Eliteserien returns this weekend with two sides searching for momentum for very different reasons as KFUM Oslo welcome Bodø/Glimt to the Norwegian capital.

For the hosts, the immediate objective remains putting distance between themselves and the relegation places after another difficult start to the campaign. Bodø/Glimt, meanwhile, are once again chasing silverware and know further dropped points could hand title rivals Viking an even greater advantage at the top of the table.

The two clubs have travelled contrasting paths in recent years, but both arrive at KFUM Arena believing there is still plenty left to play for in the second half of the season.

KFUM beginning another battle near the bottom

After narrowly avoiding relegation last season, KFUM Oslo appear destined for another tense autumn in the lower reaches of the table.

Jørgen Isnes’s side have collected just 12 points from their opening matches and remain uncomfortably close to the relegation play-off position, despite encouraging signs before the summer break.

A valuable victory over Rosenborg was followed by an impressive draw against league leaders Tromsø, results that have helped steady the ship after a difficult spell that threatened to drag the Oslo club into serious trouble.

One issue that continues to undermine their progress is discipline. Three red cards already this season have all arrived during the first half of defeats, leaving the team with an uphill battle before half-time on multiple occasions.

KFUM will also be attempting to overcome an opponent they have yet to defeat in competitive football. Their latest meeting with Bodø/Glimt ended in heartbreak in the NM Cup semi-finals earlier this year, when the northern giants eventually progressed after extra time.

The hosts will again look towards Teodor Haltvik for inspiration. The midfielder has enjoyed an impressive campaign so far and has become one of the club’s most important attacking outlets. Injury concerns persist elsewhere, with Ayoub Aleesami and Mansour Sinyan both expected to remain unavailable.

Bodø/Glimt return to domestic action with title race intensifying

For Bodø/Glimt, the standards established over recent seasons mean anything other than a title challenge is viewed as disappointment.

Back-to-back championships in 2023 and 2024 were followed by the frustration of narrowly missing out last season despite boasting the league’s best attacking and defensive records. Viking ultimately edged them out by a single point, and it is those same rivals who once again lead the way in 2026.

A heavy defeat in Stavanger earlier in the season has left Kjetil Knutsen’s side playing catch-up, but their form before the break suggested the gap may yet be recoverable.

Eight wins from ten matches in all competitions, combined with Norwegian Cup success against Brann, restored belief after an inconsistent opening to the campaign.

The biggest challenge facing Glimt this weekend concerns player availability. Patrick Berg, Fredrik Bjørkan and Jens Petter Hauge have all been involved in Norway’s historic World Cup run and may not be immediately available following Saturday’s quarter-final against England in Miami.

Magnus Riisnæs and August Mikkelsen also face late fitness tests, potentially forcing Knutsen into changes. Even so, Bodø/Glimt’s squad depth remains among the strongest in Norwegian football, and recent history offers further encouragement. They have won each of their last three meetings with KFUM Oslo and remain unbeaten in the fixture overall.

Verdict

KFUM showed against Tromsø that they are capable of frustrating stronger opponents, particularly on home soil where the compact surroundings of KFUM Arena can create a difficult environment for visitors.

However, Bodø/Glimt possess significantly greater quality across the pitch and have repeatedly demonstrated an ability to navigate these types of fixtures, even when not operating at their best.

The visitors may be missing several important names following Norway’s World Cup exploits, but Knutsen’s side still look well equipped to maintain pressure on Viking in the title race.
