A place in the BLAST Open Porto playoffs is on the line as FURIA and M80 meet in one of the most intriguing upper bracket matches of the tournament so far.

FURIA arrive with plenty of confidence after dismantling paiN 2-0 in their opening series. The Brazilians conceded just eight rounds across two maps, looking comfortable from start to finish and showing exactly why many consider them one of the strongest teams in Porto.

M80, meanwhile, produced one of the biggest surprises of the opening round. After dropping the first map to NAVI, the North American side fought back to complete a reverse sweep, led by an outstanding performance from JBa. The young American looked back to his best, delivering the kind of performance that made him one of Wildcard’s standout players before joining M80.

FURIA hold the map pool advantage

While M80 deserve plenty of credit for their win over NAVI, this matchup presents a very different challenge. FURIA have one of the deepest map pools in the tournament and have consistently shown they can adapt regardless of how the veto develops. They also hold a strong record in the head-to-head, winning four of the last five meetings between the teams.

Ironically, M80’s only victory came the last time BLAST Open was held in Portugal, back in Lisbon in 2025. That result is unlikely to carry much weight now. This is a different FURIA roster, one that has looked significantly stronger throughout recent months and continues to build momentum after an impressive Esports World Cup.

M80 are playing their best Counter-Strike in months

Although FURIA deserve to be favourites, writing off M80 would be a mistake. Their Esports World Cup ended earlier than they hoped, but there were encouraging signs. They pushed both G2 and Aurora much closer than the final results suggested before carrying that form into Porto with an impressive comeback victory over NAVI.

JBa’s resurgence has been one of the biggest positives for M80. If he continues producing at that level, the Americans have enough firepower to challenge almost anyone.

Inferno could also become a key factor. If M80 manage to secure their preferred map during the veto, they have every chance of taking a map from FURIA.

A third map looks likely

This doesn’t feel like a straightforward 2-0 despite FURIA being deserved favourites. The Brazilians have the stronger roster, greater experience and a clear edge across the map pool, but M80 have shown enough over the last week to suggest they’re capable of making this competitive.

With FURIA expected to control most of the veto but M80 likely finding value if Inferno remains available, this matchup has all the ingredients for a three-map series.

Verdict

FURIA should still be expected to reach the playoffs, but M80 are playing with confidence after upsetting NAVI and look far more dangerous than they did just a couple of weeks ago. If the veto develops in M80’s favour, they have a realistic chance of taking their own map before FURIA’s depth and experience prove decisive. Rather than backing a winner, the better value lies in expecting a long series.
