AC Milan host Juventus at San Siro on Sunday evening in a fixture with significant implications for both clubs’ European ambitions. Should Inter win in Turin hours earlier, the Rossoneri’s Scudetto hopes evaporate entirely—but Champions League qualification remains within reach.

Match Analysis

Milan’s title challenge has effectively collapsed. Trailing Inter by 12 points with five rounds remaining, Max Allegri’s side have won just three of their previous seven games, managing only a laboured 1-0 victory over relegation-bound Hellas Verona last time out. Goals have dried up alarmingly—averaging just one per game over the past ten matchdays—with both Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic misfiring.

Yet Allegri has stabilised the club considerably. Milan possess 15 more points than at this stage last season and hold an eight-point cushion over fifth-placed Como, securing Champions League football remains realistic.

Christian Pulisic’s form has been particularly troubling. The American hasn’t scored since late December—a 15-appearance drought, his longest in Serie A. With Leao equally ineffective, Allegri possesses alternatives: Christopher Nkunku, Niclas Fullkrug and Santiago Gimenez compete for attacking roles. Adrien Rabiot, who scored the Verona winner, now faces his former club after 157 appearances for Juventus.

Milan should field a full squad, with all forwards fit.

Juventus have emerged as genuine top-four contenders under Luciano Spalletti’s permanent appointment. The coach has transformed their trajectory—averaging nearly two points per game since November, significantly outpacing Igor Tudor’s 1.5 average. Only Inter have accumulated more points during that period.

The Bianconeri have won five of their last six league matches whilst conceding just one goal, extending their unbeaten run to eight games across all competitions. A win would propel them into runners-up contention; however, their defensive record against Milan is exceptional—five consecutive Serie A clean sheets against the Rossoneri, including October’s 0-0 draw.

Kenan Yildiz, who has posted 16 goal involvements this season, is expected to overcome his knee problem. Juan Cabal and Arkadiusz Milik remain sidelined, though Dusan Vlahovic’s status requires monitoring. Mattia Perin, Khephren Thuram, Emil Holm and Vasilje Adzic have resumed full training.

Verdict

Juventus arrive in superior form with a formidable defensive record against Milan. Yet Allegri’s side perform well against Serie A’s elite and possess the attacking resources to trouble Spalletti’s backline. Milan’s home advantage shouldn’t be discounted.

This clash favours Juventus slightly, but both sides require points for European qualification. A draw benefits both strategically.
