Bryne left Bislett with a 3–0 victory when these teams met in June. Four months later, they return to the fixture in better form than Lyn and with the advantage of playing on their own grass at Bryne Stadion.
Bryne have found their form
Bryne have responded well after losing 2–0 away to Strømmen at the beginning of September. They followed that defeat with a 2–0 home victory over Stabæk before beating Åsane 4–0 away.
Six goals scored and none conceded across those two matches show the improvement at both ends of the pitch. Bryne have looked more organised defensively, while their attack has started to make better use of the chances created.
They also won 4–1 against Bjarg in the Norwegian Cup between those league victories. That gives them three wins from their last three matches in all competitions, with ten goals scored.
Bryne are now sixth in the table and remain involved in the fight for a promotion play-off place. Another victory would strengthen their position heading into the final part of the season.
Lyn were heavily beaten by Ranheim
Lyn had produced a decent run before their latest league match. They drew against Egersund and won 2–0 away to Hødd, but that progress ended with a 4–1 home defeat against Ranheim.
The manner of the defeat was particularly disappointing. Lyn struggled to handle Ranheim’s attacking play and conceded four goals in front of their own supporters.
Magnus Aadland’s team sit tenth in the table and have been difficult to predict this season. They have shown that they can score plenty of goals, including five against Odd and four away to Kongsvinger, but their defensive performances have often let them down.
Lyn have conceded four goals in four different league matches this season. That is a concern before facing a Bryne side that has scored eight times across its last three games.
Bryne dominated the first meeting
The first match between the teams gives Bryne another reason for confidence. They won 3–0 at Bislett after goals from Kristian Håland, Lars Erik Sødal and Duarte Moreira.
Bryne remained disciplined without the ball and took advantage whenever Lyn left space behind their defence. Lyn struggled to create clear chances and never found a way back after falling behind.
Repeating such a comfortable victory will not be easy, but the return fixture should suit Bryne. They are stronger at home and are used to playing on the natural grass at Bryne Stadion.
The surface may also make the match more difficult for a Lyn side that normally plays its home fixtures on the artificial pitch at Bislett.
Home advantage could be decisive
Bryne have already recorded important home victories against Hødd, Moss and Stabæk this season. Their direct style works well at Bryne Stadion, where they can put opponents under pressure and compete for second balls.
Lyn have earned some good results away from home, including victories against Åsane and Hødd. However, they have also conceded regularly on their travels and were beaten 3–2 by Ranheim and 4–3 by Stabæk.
There is attacking quality in the Lyn squad, so Bryne cannot expect another easy match. Andreas Hellum, Mathias Johansen and Ebrima Sawaneh are capable of causing problems if the hosts give them space.
Bryne still look like the more reliable option. They arrive with three consecutive victories, have kept clean sheets in their last two league matches and already know how to beat Lyn.
Verdict
Lyn can make this competitive, but their defensive record makes them difficult to trust against an improving Bryne side.
The hosts have won three matches in a row and scored ten goals during that run. They also won the first meeting 3–0 and should have the advantage on their own pitch.
A repeat of that scoreline may be too much to expect, but Bryne should create enough chances to secure another victory.
Tip
Bryne to win
