Rana FK welcome Bodø/Glimt to Sagbakken Stadion for a Norwegian Cup meeting between two teams operating at very different levels. The hosts have little to lose, while Glimt are expected to control the match and secure a comfortable place in the next round.

Rana face their biggest test of the season

Rana compete in the Norwegian second division, where their results have been mixed. They recently ended a difficult run by beating Junkeren 2–0 away from home, but had previously lost against Hønefoss, Lørenskog and Grorud.

The cup provides a welcome break from the league and the visit of Glimt should create a special atmosphere at Sagbakken. Rana will likely defend deep, work hard without the ball and look for opportunities from set pieces.

Their defensive record remains a concern. Rana have conceded at least three goals in several league matches this season, including a 4–2 defeat against Grorud and a 3–3 draw with Follo.

Giving Glimt space around the penalty area could quickly turn this into a difficult evening.

Glimt should create plenty of chances

Bodø/Glimt are expected to rotate their team, but their squad should still be far too strong for Rana. Even without every regular starter, the visitors have enough pace, movement and attacking quality to control possession and create chances throughout the match.

Glimt began their cup campaign with a 5–0 victory against Fauske/Sprint. They have also scored regularly against much stronger opponents in the Eliteserien, including four against Rosenborg and three against Sandefjord.

The main question is not whether Glimt will win, but how many goals they will score.

Previous meetings have produced comfortable victories

These teams have met twice in the Norwegian Cup during the last five years. Glimt won 4–1 in 2021 before returning to Rana and winning 4–0 the following season.

Those results show the size of the gap between the teams. Rana may have improved since then, but Glimt remain one of the strongest clubs in Norway and have gained valuable experience from competing in Europe.

A straight Glimt victory offers almost no value. The three-way handicap is more tempting, but backing Glimt -3 would require them to win by at least four goals. A victory by exactly three would not be enough.

The goals market looks more attractive. Over 4.5 goals would be successful with results such as 1–4, 2–3 or 0–5, giving us more possible routes than the handicap.

Rana could contribute

Glimt should score most of the goals, but Rana may also have a chance to contribute. The visitors are likely to make several changes, and a new defensive lineup may not be completely settled.

Rana have scored in most of their home matches this season and should be aggressive whenever they win the ball. One goal from the hosts would leave Glimt needing four, which looks realistic considering the difference in quality.

Even if Rana fail to score, Glimt have already shown that they can reach five goals against lower-division opposition.

Verdict

Rana should receive plenty of support at Sagbakken, but it is difficult to see them keeping Glimt quiet for long.

The visitors are likely to dominate possession and create chances from the opening stages. Glimt should win comfortably, with at least five goals across the match looking more attractive than their very short price to win.
