Grorud’s seven-match unbeaten run will be tested when Moss visit Grorud Stadion in the second round of the Norwegian Cup. The visitors play one division higher, but both teams arrive with enough attacking form to make this a difficult match to control.

Grorud are difficult to beat at home

Their recent results include a 3–2 victory against Kjelsås, a 4–2 win over Rana and a 5–1 away victory against Lokomotiv Oslo. Those performances show why the home side should not be dismissed despite playing at the lower level.

Grorud have scored an average of 1.86 goals in their home matches this season. They have also shown that they are comfortable playing open football, with three of their last five matches producing at least four goals.

The concern is that the same approach can leave space behind their defence. Grorud conceded twice against both Kjelsås and Rana, and Moss have enough attacking quality to punish similar mistakes.

Moss have produced mixed results in the OBOS-ligaen, but their attack has remained reliable.

They have scored in nine consecutive matches and arrive after winning 2–1 away against Sandnes Ulf. That result followed another impressive away victory against Stabæk, where Moss scored three times in a 3–2 win.

Their defensive record is less convincing. Moss lost 4–1 at home against Haugesund and have conceded in each of their last five league matches. Three of those games produced at least four goals.

Moss should have more quality across the pitch, but this does not look like a comfortable away assignment. Grorud are playing with confidence and have the attacking form required to create chances against a defence that has struggled to keep clean sheets.

An early goal could open the match

The difference in league level makes Moss the favourite, but a bet on the visitors offers less protection against the uncertainty that often comes with cup football.

Grorud have scored freely at home and are unlikely to spend the entire match defending. Their best opportunity may be to press Moss and use the support at Grorud Stadion to make the game uncomfortable from the opening minutes.

That approach should also leave opportunities for Moss. The visitors have scored five goals across their last two away matches and will expect to create chances if Grorud commit players forward.

Both teams scoring looks likely, but the available price is too short to be the main selection. The higher goal line offers more value in a match where both sides have recently been involved in several open contests.

Verdict

Moss have the stronger squad and may eventually advance, but Grorud’s recent form suggests they can contribute to the scoreline.

Neither defence has looked secure enough to expect a controlled match. If the first goal arrives early, the need to reach the next round could create an increasingly open game.
